In the 2nd round of the US Open, Yanina had to go up against the German Julia Georges (WTA 44).

In the first set both ladies managed to take a break after which they stayed on serve till 5-4. At that moment Yanina managed to break the German a second time, thus taking the first set with 6-4.

Also during the 2nd set the scores stayed tight. At 6-5 Georges had to serve to stay in the match and just like in the first set she wasn’t able to handle the pressure. Wickmayer collected a triple match point of which she converted the second to finish it off with a 7-5 score in the second set.

In the third round Yanina has to go up against Patty Schnyder (WTA 53). Schnyder defeated another Belgian in the first round of the tournament, namely Kirsten Flipkens.
