At the US Open, Yanina needed just 53 minutes to win her first round match against Alla Kudryavtseva.

Like in 2009, Yanina kicked off her US Open campaign at court N° 13. This time, she was up against Kudryavtseva (WTA-103), whose biggest accomplishment to date is a win over Maria Sharapova at Wimbledon in 2008. Kudryavtseva came up with some good shot-making early in the match, immediately breaking Wicky’s serve. Yanina did, however, respond quickly. She stormed through the remainder of the first set by winning six games in a row.

In the second set; Kudryavtseva held to take the lead, with Yanina levelling things up and subsequently breaking her opponent once more. She did not look back from that point, as she won the first set easily 6-2, breaking Kudryavtseva yet another time en route.

On Thursday, Yanina will play her second round match against Julia Görges from Germany, over whom she holds a 3-1 head-to-head record, including a straight sets victory at Indian Wells this spring.
