Yanina hits herself to Belgian encounter  22/01/2010
In a tough match, which during the first set seemed to become a short one, Yanina overtakes Sara Errani to meet fellow Belgian Justine Henin in the fourth round.

With Sara Errani, Yanina had to overtake another Italian. She starts strong winning her service game on love, by hitting 4 good first serves. The serve on game point was even her first ace of the match (and it wouldn’t be the last). Yanina also returns really aggressively and breaks Errani. With another good set of serves and aggressive tennis close to the lines, Yanina leads 3-0. Errani still struggles to hold serve. Although Yanina takes a 15-40 lead, Errani takes it to 3-1, thanks to some errors on the side of the Belgian. Yanina keeps serving really well and with a third ace of the match she sets the score at 4-1. It is all going a bit too fast for the Italian and after only 22 minutes of play Yanina gets to serve for the first set. She gets 2 setpoints, but Errani comes back to deuce (first time this match on Yanina’s serve) and gets a break point, but Yanina manages to get rid of that, gets a new setpoint and converts it this time with a winner along the line. She wins the first set with 6-1 in less than half an hour.

At the beginning of the second set, Errani seems to play at a higher level and they stay on serve. Yanina holding serve on love, with her fourth ace of the match at 40-0. In the fourth game the momentum seems to have changed. Yanina makes a few errors and Errani gets 2 break points. She converts the first one and leads for the first time in the match. Yanina answers with a re-break, hitting an angled winner cross court. Yanina then evens the score to 3-3. During the next game, her back starts to play up again. Errani, who of course noticed that, makes her run for every point. Yanina starts to struggle with her first serve, but still manages to keep this set on serve. With clear pain on her face she still fights for what she is worth, but can’t prevent Errani from going to 5-4, putting the pressure on her to stay in the set. Errani gets 2 setpoints, but with a series of winning serves, Yanina holds. At 6-5 for Errani, Yanina gets a medical time out for her back. Errani again gets 2 setpoints, but with a few winners and an ace, Yanina knocks herself to a tie breaker. On 5-4 for Errani in the tie breaker a ball from the Italian, which Yanina saw out, was not called, handing the Italian set points. Yanina gets mad and overhits the ball, handing Errani the set: 7-6 [4]

The same line judge, who didn’t call the ball from Errani, now calls a ball from Yanina out, while Yanina was sure it was in. Luckily she still manages to keep serve. Yanina seems to have turned her anger into positive energy and gets 2 breakpoints, but with good serves, Errani holds. The third game was a real battle with chances for both players. In the end it is Errani who takes it at her 5th (!!) breakpoint of the game. Again Yanina answers with a re-break. Both players hold serve, although Yanina had a break point on Errani’s serve. At 4-3 Yanina converts her second breakpoint. It’s up to her now to serve for the match. She collects 2 match points. The 2nd gets hit out by Errani.

Yanina wins the match 6-1 6-7 6-3 and has to play compatriot Justine Henin in the fourth round. She won over Kleybanova, also in 3 sets.
