Thirteen lucky for Yanina? 09/03/2010

Yanina is the thirteenth seed at the BNP Paribas Open, the Premier Mandatory tournament of Indian Wells. She has a bye in the first round.

World number 15 Yanina is seeded thirteenth at the first Premier Mandatory event of the year. This seeding is due to the absence of both Williams sisters, who refuse to play in Indian Wells since 2002 (racist incidents having taken place in 2001), and Dinara Safina, who is still suffering from her low back injury.

Yanina is in the second quarter of the draw. Being seeded, she has a bye in the first round, and will meet the winner of the match between Czech leftie Lucie Safarova (WTA-39) and Germany's Julia Goerges (WTA-69). Yanina hold a 2-1 record over the German, but never played Safarova before.

Should she reach the third round, she's likely to meet Daniela Hantuchova [21]. A possible fourth round would oppose her to third seed Victoria Azarenka.
